Tips on Save Money
Back to school time is a crazy time of the year for most parents and kids. Back to school clothes shopping can be a real headache. Not only is it expensive, but it is often time consuming and frustrating especially if you have picky tweens and teens. So what can you do to help minimize the stress while getting everything you need?
Here are a few tips on back to school clothes shopping:
Put Together a Plan
The first thing you can do is plan. If you don’t have a strategy or a plan you’ll end up wasting time and money. Take inventory and know what each child has and what they need. Make a list of things they need (not want). Make a separate list of things they want. Use an app like Evernote to help you make a list.
Create a Budget
You have to know what you are willing to spend and what number you will absolutely not go over. If you have multiple kids creating a list and knowing what they have versus what they need will help you determine a rough budget. Just make sure that you are firm with your budget.
Shop Clearance and/or Consignment
Every department store has huge clearance racks. Go to those first to see what you can get a deal on. Don’t forget that some states have ‘tax free’ days for back to school shopping. Take advantage of those days.
Also, some people find really great deals at consignment shops. This totally depends on your budget and preference. It takes some time to dig through all of the clothes, but you could come away with a few amazing deals.
Be Frugal Not Cheap
What you choose to spend your money on is important. Sometimes you can get away with getting less expensive tops or undergarments. But there are some things that should not be purchased cheaply. For example, shoes are one thing that you should not sacrifice. The wrong type of shoes can cause foot issues. It’s best to get a more expensive pair of shoes – ones that will last – instead of buying cheap shoes that will end up in the garbage all too soon anyway.
Don’t Load Up
You might be tempted to shop your heart out because of all the back-to-school sales. However, it’s still warm when kids go back to school so there is really no need to stock up on a bunch of fall/winter clothes just yet. Keep in mind that there will be more sales and more deal especially as we move closer to the holiday season.
